Hello Credit Union, formerly known as Bay Credit Union, wanted a way to easily view and manage its video surveillance system across its branches, since it did not have a wall of monitors or just one dedicated staff member overseeing security. It currently has several staff members in compliance, security and IT who use OpenEye Web Services (OWS) through a desktop client or their phones to gain needed information from the system.

[Mike Akers, Hello Credit Union]
My name is Mike Akers, I’m the president and CEO of Bay Credit Union and FLAG Credit Union, a division of Bay Credit Union. We have five locations across the Florida Panhandle, we serve 14,000 members, and manage about $180 million in assets.

Technology certainly leapfrogged over the last couple of years in terms of cameras, and I think as a financial institution in some cases they kind of become a back burner item as you focus on more of the day-to-day, but then when bad things happen, you really need to make sure that you have adequate coverage for both the security of your membership as well as your employees,

Setup was very easy to do. You have to make it very user-friendly for people to use your product, for them to like it. You can have your device do everything in the world, but if the customer can’t use it, it doesn’t matter.

OpenEye made it very easy for the end user to have access to everything that the recorders can do. My favorite point is the off-site support for the customers. If they ever have any sort of camera power cycle or any video playback [issue], I could do it right there. I can fix their problem on the phone with them wherever I’m at.

[Akers]
A couple weekends ago, we got an alert early on a Sunday morning that someone was attempting to steal one of our ATMs at one of our locations. We got the alert right on our phone. We were able to check it right away and determine what was going on, dispatch law enforcement, and scare off the folks that were trying to do nefarious stuff at one of our locations.

One of the reasons we chose OpenEye is because we like to keep data for quite some time, especially if there’s activity that’s happening. With multiple locations, it can get pretty data-intensive. Being able to kind of get back to those things quickly was a game-changer for us. We can get the information so much quicker than we ever have before, and it’s really added a lot of efficiency to our process.
