The 2026 Global Security Exchange (GSX) saw leaders across the physical security industry come together to showcase the cutting-edge technology that’s impacting today’s businesses. Advanced new cloud and AI innovations were demonstrated, and peers met to discuss how they’re using video security to not only strengthen safety across their organization but also improve operations.
The OpenEye team had the privilege of meeting with leaders across industries, customers, and partners, as well as hosting a panel discussion where we explored how AI video analytics can drive greater revenue for organizations. We also demonstrated several of our newest product innovations, including AI Visual Search and AI Visual Check.
The conversations our team had showed that video security is heading in an exciting direction, led by AI functionality, integrated systems, and cloud capabilities. As businesses look to deploy these solutions, conversations surrounding trust are happening in tandem to ensure application throughout the organization is done considerately and with the most operational impact.
At GSX 2026, key video security trends included increased adoption of AI video analytics, modernization of legacy security systems, cloud-based security capabilities, system integration, and growing demand for transparent and trusted AI. Organizations are increasingly exploring how video security can support both physical security and broader business operations.
AI continues to be the dominant trend seen across the video security industry. As capabilities grow, more businesses are exploring how they can deploy this technology, the move from reactive to proactive, and how security cameras can become devices that work for the entire business.
As AI becomes more widely accessible, many customers and security integrators want to know how they can realistically deploy it. For many, the first hurdle is the process of modernizing legacy systems that likely weren’t designed with video analytics in mind. Businesses are asking, “How do I modernize my existing infrastructure? What’s the first phase of deployment? How can I take practical steps towards using this AI?”
Moving from reactive to proactive security has been the trend for the past decade. Now, businesses want to start being proactive with their operations. AI video analytics are offering this opportunity, as organizations can now automate checks of site conditions, resolve certain revenue disputes, and verify procedures, allowing companies to proactively meet goals and address workflow issues.
AI capabilities are expanding the organizational influence of video security systems, reaching departments that previously had little reason to engage with them. Extracting insights from camera data is now easier than ever, effectively transforming security data into operational data and security cameras into business cameras. As a result, organizations are asking a new question: “How can my cameras work for my business?”
On the showroom floor, our team also got to personally meet with customers and hear firsthand what their problems and goals were. These conversations were insightful and revealed several commonalities.
Security integrators are exploring how AI video analytics can enhance their service offerings. Not only can integrators deliver advanced functionalities, but their experience puts them in a unique position to act as trusted advisors. For businesses seeking guidance beyond deployment, integrators are uniquely positioned to serve as long-term partners, helping organizations maximize the value of their technology investment.
Security integrators struggling with labor shortages are looking to the AI-powered cloud solutions they’re offering for assistance in reducing the number of truck rolls and technicians needed in the field. OpenEye’s cloud infrastructure helps meet that need through remote troubleshooting features. Preconfigured systems and the ability to monitor system health help teams with fewer technicians roll out solutions faster and with a more efficient use of resources.
While businesses want to use AI solutions, they also want to ensure the system they’re deploying is one they can trust. These organizations want to explore how it works practically at their unique site but don’t want to be blindsided by a system that doesn’t deliver on what it promises. Being clear and upfront about system capability helps establish trust between the provider and the end user, with full transparency into what the solution can and cannot do.
One of the most common pain points we heard was businesses working with systems that they had no part in designing. These teams inherited legacy infrastructures comprised of disparate recorders, cameras, and software, some relatively modern, others nearly two decades old. This fragmentation impacts team effectiveness; operators cannot readily support other areas of the organization if they lack familiarity with a particular VMS or piece of hardware. Businesses want to connect their systems and limit closed environments so they can take advantage of the security data they have and turn it into business data.
During the show, our team also had the chance to demonstrate two new AI capabilities available within the OpenEye Web Services (OWS) platform: AI Visual Search and AI Visual Check. These features each bring security and operational advantages to businesses, unlocking time savings and efficiency. Additionally, because both AI functionalities are available in OWS, they offer a streamlined way for security integrators and end users to get advanced capabilities out of their existing systems.
AI Visual Search in OWS locates specific moments in video footage via simple user-input descriptions. Users can type in a natural-language query, such as “a person carrying a box in the lobby yesterday afternoon,” and the system will quickly surface the most relevant results across cameras.
With AI Visual Search, businesses can enjoy:
Designed to automate monitoring of business operations, safety protocols, and compliance across multiple locations, AI Visual Check provides proactive alerts when issues are detected. This includes blocked fire exits, out-of-stock shelves, or unattended security posts, to reduce reliance on manual oversight or walkthroughs, enable faster resolution, and free up resources across modern enterprises.
AI Visual Check empowers businesses to:
At GSX, OpenEye led a panel discussion centered on how organizations can use their security cameras as business cameras. First, we identified the questions operators used to ask, such as “Is there a person here?” “Have they crossed a line?” “Were they in another place they shouldn’t have been?” Then, we shifted to the questions physical security professionals can ask today and how they can get answers thanks to AI functionality. Teams can go beyond simply seeing if a person is present and instead find out whether the individual is an employee, where they entered the building, and if they’ve completed key processes.
The OpenEye team was joined by panelists who shared their three biggest impact areas for AI-powered video analytics.
Instead of requiring team members to physically travel to different locations to conduct checks and verify site conditions manually, businesses can use their cameras to conduct the checks for them with AI-powered visual alerting. This can help reduce visits and travel costs, leading to greater resource savings and efficient use of time. An automated process is only complete with human-in-the-loop design, which is to say, there’s always a team member confirming these checks to limit errors and ensure processes are being followed.
The impact of AI video analytics on customers and revenue was identified as occurring in three major areas:
Each of these impacts ends up benefiting other departments; as such, the budget ends up being shared throughout the organization. This turns what was initially a security purchase into a cross-departmental allocation of resources, where local branch managers, marketing departments, and merchandising “buy in” to their organization’s video security system.
Improving employee efficiency and tracking vendor activity to ensure budget and billing is accurate is another benefit of AI video security. When employees fall short of expectations or vendors fail to deliver agreed-upon services, the financial impact can be significant. By using AI-powered security cameras, businesses can see if they’re getting the services they paid for to reduce any monetary losses.
GSX 2026 demonstrated how rapidly the video security industry is moving. The innovations offered by AI will continue to be a relevant talking point for years to come as AI fundamentally reshapes how organizations think about their cameras. Companies are now looking to their video security systems as a source of operational intelligence that drives efficiency across the entire enterprise. As businesses continue to modernize their infrastructure and explore what’s possible, OpenEye remains committed to delivering open, intelligent, and trusted solutions that meet them where they are today and scale with them into the future.
