Liberty Lake, WASH. –December 11, 2019 – This holiday season, OpenEye has partnered with Central Valley School District (CVSD) to gift a brand-new bicycle to 80 students that they help to assemble, continuing a tradition started over a decade ago of giving back to the children in our community.
On December 11 and 13, OpenEye employees will spend part of their workday with the visiting students at OpenEye’s headquarters in Liberty Lake. Together, students and employees will participate in hands-on activities intended to foster an interest in technology and sciences. Students learn how to assemble a computer and complete a scavenger hunt using OpenEye surveillance cameras to find objects placed throughout the building. OpenEye then surprises students with a new bicycle, which they work with an employee to assemble.
“We’re proud to be celebrating our 20th year in business and grateful to be able to give back to the community that has supported us all these years,” said Richard Sheppard, OpenEye Founder and CEO. “We hope to make a positive impact and inspire these children to pursue careers in math and science to create the next generation of Spokane’s tech entrepreneurs.”
Participating students range from kindergarten to 8th grade and have been selected from schools all across the Central Valley School District based on criteria including need, good character, and school attendance. In addition to building their own bicycle, each student also receives a new helmet, shirt, water bottle, bike lock and a cinch backpack filled with other goodies.
OpenEye is proud to continue hosting this event to serve local students in positive and important ways, and to demonstrate our employee’s commitment to social responsibility through meaningful civic engagement.
Additional thanks to MODdisplays, Seagate, Purfect Logos, ESI Promos, The Bike Hub and Costco who all made contributions to help support this event and make it even more special for the children participating this year.
