April 28, 2004,
Spokane WA - OpenEye, Inc. announced today
that it has received its ISO 9001:2000 registration certificate from
Underwriters Laboratories (UL). The scope of OpenEye’s registration includes
the design, manufacture, technical support, and distribution of PC based
products including digital video recorders. ISO certification means
OpenEye’s quality control process is substantiated and verified by a third
party company (Underwriters Laboratory) to meet criteria set by an
international consortium.
“This is important in the technology industry where companies quickly come
and go. It lends OpenEye credibility and allows us to market our products to
a wider range of companies,” said Brent Gable, OpenEye’s National Sales
Manager.
Using its ISO registration as a rallying point, OpenEye also announced plans
to launch a recently designed 64 channel digital video recorder in September
of 2004. A digital video recorder (DVR) is a computer based recording device
designed to store and manage video. DVRs are quickly replacing Time-Lapse
VCRs which have been used for decades to record video.
“We have been using the 64 channel project as an opportunity to review and
improve our design program. The fact that we are now ISO registered
demonstrates to our integration partners that OpenEye is serious about the
quality of our products and services,” said Jon Swatzell, OpenEye’s Chief
Technology Officer. The 64 channel system is targeted toward larger
organizations with extensive video surveillance needs. The 64CH system will
contain all the features of the current X-series recorders. However, the
cost per channel will be substantially reduced.
ISO 9001:2000 has become the leading international standard for quality
management requirements. Underwriters Laboratory (UL) has already earned the
distinction of being America’s leading registrar and is accredited by Raad
voor Accreditatie (RvA) in the Netherlands, the Registrar Accreditation
Board (RAB) in the United States, Standards Council of Canada (SCC), the
United Kingdom Accreditation Services (UKAS), the Instituto Nacional de
Metrologia, Normalização e Qualidade (InMetro) in Brazil and the Japanese
Accreditation Board (JAB).
